Production Manager, New Work

Penumbra seeks an experienced manager to support artistic programming during a
period of growth and opportunity for the organization. This is a full-time, salaried
position reporting to the President, working closely with other staff, artists, and partner
organizations. The Production Manager will create and drive clearly defined plans; be a
thoughtful and strategic manager of artistic and production budgets; ensure clarity and
transparency in communication; cultivate and maintain safe and positive working
conditions; nurture growth and pride amongst artistic and production teams; ensure the
highest production standards; and be eager to support the health and vitality of
Penumbra.

In addition to four main stage plays a year, Penumbra supports the development of new
work through commissions and collaborations with partner organizations. Our intention
is always to move new work from commission to production and to provide thoughtful
support for artists in development by hosting workshops and readings. Production
management support will be essential to the success of new work events in meeting
high production values for technical and talent expertise and ensuring a smooth run of

Education Coordinator

The Education Coordinator oversees program coordination, acts as administrative point person
for part-time and seasonal teams, and supports planning, scheduling, communications,
logistics, purchasing, and budget tracking across all education initiatives. They anticipate needs,
solve problems proactively, and build efficient systems that support high-quality educational

Emerging Teaching Artists

To support the next generation of emerging teaching artists who, in turn, support young people in developing healthy self-esteem and a strong sense of identity, Penumbra is seeking individuals who are interested in exploring teaching as both a creative practice and an expression of social justice. Candidates need not have formal teaching experience, but should genuinely enjoy working with children and youth and understand that strong teaching begins with relationships.
Penumbra’s Teaching Artists do more than deliver lessons. They help create spaces where young people can be curious, expressive, playful, thoughtful, creative, and fully themselves.
Teaching Artists work Penumbra’s curriculum and pedagogical approach while bringing their own artistry, experience, presence, and facilitation skills into the room.

This is a highly collaborative, active, and responsive mentee role. Teaching Artists adjust plans in real time, respond to individual and group needs, work cooperatively with peers and Penumbra staff, while remaining actively engaged with young people throughout the program day. Emerging Teaching Artists will be paired with a seasoned Penumbra Teaching Artist to gain real-time, practical experience in K-12 classrooms, with the goal of eventually leading lessons on their own.
